JAY A. GERVASI, JR.: I was raised to believe that when we're given great gifts, we have an obligation to give back and to pass those gifts along. I help out by helping other lawyers, either through educational seminars, assistance with briefs to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, organizing others to help with those things. I'm a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. It's an organization of lawyers, whose unifying theme is representation of the vulnerable against the large and powerful. I give back to the legal community and to other lawyers because I want them to be able to do a better job for their own clients, just as people have helped me do a better job for mine.
